JANUARY 15, 1984

 

 

Here it is a new item that goes straightly to the Showroom's "Item of the week" status:this is an ABC radio station only special, recorded on dEcember 1983 and aired on January 15th, 1984.

The voice of Jerry Bishop presents the 1 hour and a half special, including several Michael Jackson's solo hits as well as some of the Jackson 5 /Jacksons. Even though it's not an Epic/Sony release, the tracks in the special are all original, and officially licensed. This means that this double vinyl set, is totally an official item.

The box was given to several ABC departments to air it in different days. It contains 2 lps, with 1/3 sides on record 1, and 2/4 sides on record 2:this was intended to give a complete non-stop program to the consolle while airing.

The box also contains a 7-pages special planning, including the exact segments (in minutes) where a song starts and ends.

It also put the evidence on the commercials included, and the spoken parts by Bishop.

There are other similar boxsets released by ABC including specials from other artists (mostly from Epic/CBS records, that maybe was at the time a joint-venture with ABC Networks).

The band TOTO, for example, got a similar release.

In the randomly pictured items, I found this HIStory set of 2 different cassette sets, and the minidisc little boxset coming all from USA. So I decided to show them all together here.

Indeed, the US market got 3 different sizes of boxes for the "HIStory" cassette release. In this picture, is missing the mega-long box, that is taller (!) than the one you see. Still looking for it to complete the set, you know... :-)

Another detail:both the cassettes edition are first pressings, containing the uncensored version of They Don't care about us. The minidisc is a second pressing, with censored track. And even though my copy is stills ealed, I'm quite sure it has the apologies message from Michael on the booklet inside.

Well. Let me write you some numbers:this is the 61th THRILLER lp copy in the showrrom. 66 including the THRILLER 25 reissues. The goal is to reach 70 lps, right now. And believe me:it's a monster finish line! But the hunt continues, day after day, week after week.

Something evil's lurking from my mind.

And it's close to midnight.

P.S. There's at least a similar release with a promo stamped yellow label. Same sleeve like this. Beware of some other fake southamerican promos you can see in some auctions (mostly 12'' singles, and usually mexican releases coming with unreleased and never-seen before picture sleeves).

We'll talk about "Thriller" this week, and we are goin back to the 90's with another particular reissue, this time from Japan. This is the "CD CLUB EDITION" with an uncommon catalogue number (FCCP40168), released only for the japanese mailorders market "The cd club". This is an official release licensed by Epic Records (see the spine and the cd artwork), and despite it's coming from Japan, it comes with no obi!

BAD MEXICO PROMOTIONAL PRESS KIT+LP

What you see in these pictures is another big dream of mine; it's a promotioanl press kit released in Mexzico by Epic records. It contains a mexican copy of the BAD lp, some official pictures, a media plan with infos on the release; all housed in a large "BAD" logo folder. A must-have for any collector.

Really really Bad this is still missing in the Showroom!!!
