THE RECORD OF THE WEEK :
"GHOSTS" SPAIN PROMO VHS
EPIC/SONY/EL CORTE INGLES

This week, the Showroom chosen as "record of the week" a VHS. This is a promo video of the "Ghosts" video (I never played the vhs but I assume it contains the short 5'00'' version aired on MTV), released in 1997 in Spain ONLY. The video has an "El corte ingles" logo on the front side. El Corte Inglés is Spain's only remaining department store chain, as well as owner of several associated businesses like malls, petrol strations and travel agencies. I don't kn ow if this VHS was distributed to some of these companies as a gift for its customers buying the "Blood on the dancefloor" album, or if it's just a promotional advert. By the way, this VHS is not easy to find, and it worth around €50/70 euros, nowadays.

TODAY'S
WELCOME TO THE SHOWROOM  :
AUSTRALIAN SHEET MUSIC

A lot of several sheet music from Australia is the new addition for the Showroom today. These wonderful sheets, with lyrics included, have an exclusive picture sleeve, different from the UK & the U.S, releases (especially the "Off the wall" ones). The singles taken from "Thriller" got an album picture sleeve - like the U.S. set - but this time, with different colour shades, which makes this set unique. The effort for these sheets for the singles discography of Michael is big - spanning a carrer of 30 years, from "Ben" to "Hold my hand", and their prices not always worth their purchase. I suggest to all the collectors who wants to get them, to be patient and wait for a good seller to find'em in mint conditions and without writings or damages...but - most important thing - at a good price : sometimes, buying them in lots could be a good deal,  to save money on shipping costs that are often too high.

THE UNRELEASED ONE PART II :
DECADE 1979-1989

We saw some daysd ago the unreleased "Butterflies" single. Now we havce, here, another "urban legend". In 1989, 2 years after the release of "Bad", Michael was planning a greatest hits release. Its name was "Decade 1979-1989". The idea was to release a double record with some classic hits and 4 unreleased songs. Who owns the last "Black & white" magazine issue, probably noticed the artowrk of the album (whenever it's true or not, I don't know), where the 4 "unreleased" tracks were : "It doesn't really matter" (work-in-progress of Who is it), "Come together" (released only on the movie "Moonwalker" at the time), "Heal the world" and another Beatles cover..."Strawberry fields forever"!! I wonder if it excist a complete demo of this song, and if Michael ever record it.
By the way...Michael had enough new songs to release a full album, so the double compilation lp turned into "Dangerous", a 14 new songs album. The idea of the double "hits" record became reality then with the release of the "HIStory" cd in 1995.
"Black & white" says only 3 copies of this album were relased, 2 of them owned by Sony employees (1 of them it's possibly Tommy Mottola?). In the pictures you can see alsoi an alternatiuve artwork, a first representation of Michael's eyes turned then in the well-known Dangerous circus cover.

RECORD OF THE WEEK : SHAKE YOUR BODY (DOWN TO THE GROUND)
CANADA MARBLE VINYL EPIC 12E48307

The record of this week is a beautiful coloured "Shake your body"vinyl from Canada.
This limited edition comes with a marble yellow colour, and a generic Epic/CBS sleeve (different from the U.S. generic with woman lips, this has a woman legs). Also a black vinyl, more common than this one, have been released. To my knowledge, this is the only canadian coloured issue by Epic for the Jacksons discography. It'0s truly a beauty to see this marble yellow record spinning on the turntable and moving to the word "let's dance! let's shout! shake your body to the ground!"

AN UNRELEASED SINGLE :
"BUTTERFLIES"

Butterflies was planeed as a third single release from the album "Invincible". Then something went wrong, and we all know the sad story. The album's promotion was met with trouble due to internal conflicts going on between Sony Music Entertainment and Jackson due to issues with his ownership with the company and the contract to this deal with Sony that was originally signed back in 1991. Not wanting to sign away his ownership in Sony Music Entertainment, Michael elected to leave the company shortly after the album's release. After the announcement, Sony halted promotion on the album, cancelling single releases, including a 9/11 charity single ("What more can I give?") that was intended to be released before Invincible.
After "You rock my world" and "Cry", at least 4 singles should have been released, following the promotion plans : "Butterflies", "Unbreakable", "Break of dawn" and "Whatever happens". Unfortunately, this didn't happen. Neverthless, "Butterflies" was only a radio single - peaking at a respectable #14 on Billboard Hot 100 only with radio airplay - and the track was released only on promo cd and on 2 different 12'' given to U.S. radio stations . The cd should include 4 tracks, including the "Master mix feat.Eve" and the "Acappella" version.
In the picture, you can see the single artwork.
